Asparuhovo is a neighborhood in Varna, located in the southern part of the city, beyond the canal connecting Varna Lake to the Black Sea. Asparuhovo district includes two neighborhoods and five settlements: Asparuhovo and Galata neighborhoods, as well as the settlements of Zelenika, Borovets North, Borovets South, Rakitnika, and the resort area “Priboi”.In the neighborhood, there is a hospital, a polyclinic, a fire station, a police station, a church, as well as 5 schools:– “Lyuben Karavelov” High School; – “Hristo Botev” Primary School; – “Vasil Levski” National School; – Varna Naval Gymnasium “St. Nicholas the Wonderworker”; – School for the Blind – one of the two schools for the blind in Bulgaria.Asparuhovo neighborhood has a separate center where there are a community center, a post office, a polyclinic, pharmacies, shops, restaurants, and cafes. There, in front of the fishing village of the same name, an international short film festival is held, aimed at young and unknown artists, with the goal of turning the fishing village into a cultural zone and preserving the fishermen’s way of life. There is also the historical and ethnographic complex “Prabulgarian settlement Fanagoria” in the park. The complex is a reconstruction of a Prabulgarian settlement and is a place where visitors can ride horses. Additionally, in the park, remains of the so-called Prabulgarian defensive wall, called “Asparuhov val”, can be seen. In the Dzhanavara area, ruins of an early medieval monastery have been excavated and are being studied, and this is also the burial place of its discoverer, Herman Skorpil.
